Footwork and Fitness Drill

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on footwork, fitness and catching.

Start with a line of 8 cones 1 yard apart from each other. A keeper starts at one end and a server is 12 yards away with a ball.

To start the keeper slides side to side behind the cones and the server plays the ball and the keeper makes the save on the outside of the last cone

The keeper then returns the ball and does the same thing in the other direction

This is done for a one minute period then the keeper rests for a minute.

Next is the same thing but now the keeper starts facing the line and does two legged jumps between each cones and then gets to the end, turns and makes the save.

You can do two legged jumps, one legged jumps, backward jumps and many more variations.

The key to this is the keeper should go at full speed for a one minute period and then be given either a one or two minute break before doing the next thing.

Have a great day!
