Shot Blocking, Footwork and Backward Dives

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter.  Today’s featured activity works on shotblocking, footwork and backward dives.

Start with a keeper in goal, a server on each side of the 18 and another server near the penalty spot.  Each of the servers has a few balls.

Server one starts by shooting on goal (the angle can vary).  The keeper is given just enough time to cut off the angle.

The keeper makes the save and quickly returns the ball to the server

The keeper must then sprint to server 2 touch the ball with two hands and then drop step and quickly get back for a lofted ball over his head.

The keeper has the option of catching the ball or pushing it over the goal and also of diving or keeping his feet.

The same thing is then done with a ball starting with server 3.

This does a great job of working on footwork and realizing that this type of save is frequently done while scrambling from being out of position so starting from different angles helps to make it more game realistic.

Have a great day!
