Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on positioning, movement, reading the situation and shot blocking.
Start with a keeper in goal, a player with a ball at the 12 yard spot and two players on angles just outside the 18.
The keeper has to be prepared for one of three options.
One option is the player with the ball turns and shoots.
The second option is the player with the ball lays the ball off to one of the shooters to hit a first time shot
The third option is the player with the ball lays the ball to the other shooter
Since the keeper has to be prepared for any of these three options he must be ready to readjust his positioning and react accordingly. When the ball gets played back to one of the other two players the keeper also has to be prepared for a deflection and for rebounds
This is an excellent way to recreate a dangerous situation into a training environment. You can also add a defender behind the player with the ball to put in yet another variable.
