Shot Blocking and Balance

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on footwork, shot blocking and balance.

Start with a server, with balls. near the 18 on a slight angle and a keeper in goal at the near post. There is a cone in the middle of the goal.

The keeper starts by sliding to the cone.

As soon as he gets to the cone, the server shoots near post.

The keeper has to get back to make the save.

The keeper then gets back up and quickly heads far post to make the next save.

Do this 10 times and then switch sides.

The keeper needs to move quickly in this activity but must work hard to maintain his balance the entire time.
