Shot Blocking From Various Distances

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on reactions and shot blocking.

Start with a keeper in a small goal (4 x 6 or slightly bigger). A server is 8 yards away with balls. There is a line 3 yards in front of the goal.

The keeper starts by stepping out in front of the line and gets set.

As soon as the keeper is set the server shoots on goal.

Since this shot is from 5 yards away the emphasis is on making the save as opposed to trying to use proper technique. This might mean using the foot for a kick save or it might mean throwing a hand out to push the ball way.

As soon as the save is made, the keeper goes back to do this again.

You also can do this with multiple keepers so as soon as one save is made, the next keeper gets in goal and they go one after the other.

You can alter the servers distance from the goal and the size of the goal to make things easier or harder.

Have a great day!
