I usually end each session with a shooting exercise that incorporates aspects of the practice theme. One of the formats I often us is a simple three line set-up. I like this because you can do a wide variety of things from these basic starting position. The players are comfortable because we use this set-up often but I can make adjustments to place the emphasis where I want it.
I started using this as a regular part of my practices after reading 'Training Creative Goalscorers'
Here's an example of the setup and some of the variations.
From here you can do a hundred of different progressions but my favorite is for Player 1 to shoot and then play a give-and-go with Player 2 and then finishing with Player 2 defending a 1 v 1 against Player 3.
Another variation I use is a shot by Player 1 then a 1 v 1 with Player 2. When the 1 v 1 is completed, Player 3 passes to either Player 1 or 2 and then play 2 v 1 against other player.
There are even more variations you can use with a four line setup.
There are hundreds of variations in 'Training Creative Goalscorers'. You can find one that fits virtually any practice topic. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in progressive, functional shooting exercises, drills and small-sided games.
