Dealing with High Crosses

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on footwork for high crosses.

Start with a server with a ball near the 18 and end line, 4 cones that are one yard apart starting at the near post a few keepers near the far post.

The first keeper starts by stepping between each cone, touching and then touching the near post.

The server tosses a high ball to the middle of the 6 yard line.

The keeper has to get back behind the tossed ball and go up and catch the ball.

As the keeper is about to come forward he would call “keeper” and catch the ball at almost the highest point possible.

As soon as the ball is caught, the ball is returned to the server and the next keeper begins.

Do this 5 times from each side.

Next do the same thing but this time the keeper hops on the right leg only between the 4 cones and then does the same thing. Do this 3 times to each side and then repeat hopping on the left leg only.

Really emphasize the importance of getting back behind the ball, calling for the ball and getting up high to catch the ball.

Have a great day!
