Criss-Cross Shooting Activity

By Keith Scarlett

This activity works on finishing, passing, one-touch play and goalkeeping.

Players are in two-lines about 30-40 yards from goal. There is a goalkeeper in the net playing full-out. One player is positioned around the penalty spot to start.

To start this activity, a ball is played in to the player at the penalty spot from one of the two lines.

The player at the penalty spot lays the ball back to one side or the other.

The first player in each of the two lines runs forward overlapping each other (the player on the left-side runs down the right and the player on the right side runs down the left).

They hit the ball that is played back for a one-time shot (if it is on their side). The other player (who does not take the shot) follows up for any rebounds.

The players rotate as such: The player who takes the shot gathers their ball while the player who follows-up now steps into the role of the target and checks out to receive a ball from the next group. The previous target player joins one of the two lines.
