Switching Flanks and Quick Attacks

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter.  Today’s featured activity works on possession, changing fields and quick attacks.

Start with a 5 v 4 situation in a 35 x 35 area in the corner of half the field. Two other attacking players are on the other half of the field out wide.  There should also be a keeper in goal.

The attacking team must make 5 passes inside the corner grid and once they do, they can pass the ball wide to the other side at which point it’s a live game

The point we are trying to make with this activity is if the team can maintain possession and then switch fields they will most likely be successful in getting to goal.

Next, you can add a defender into the second half so once the 5 passes have been made, they can’t just kick the ball to the other side but rather have to find the open player but it will be a numbers up situation (which is frequently the case in a real game as well

You also have the option of going to 3 v 2 in this far side as well.

This is a great way to get the players to think in terms of maintaining possession, creating space on the far side and then switching fields for the quick attack.

Although this isn’t the point of the DVD, this activity and other variations can be seen in the DVD The Brazilian Box Midfield

Have a great day!
