Shot Blocking, Footwork and Rebounds

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on shot blocking, footwork and dealing with rebounds.

Start with a keeper in goal and three servers on the field. The first one is 15 yards out, even with the 6 yard box with balls. The second one is 15 yards out, even with the other side of the 6, with balls and the third is at the 12 yard spot.

The keeper starts by sliding and touching the post closest to server 1.

As soon as the keeper gets to the post server 1 plays a ball toward the far post.

gk265c

The keeper dives and parries the ball to safety.

gk265d

The keeper has to quickly get up and make the save from the second server (the second server is recreating an attacking player who is trying to score from the rebound).

If the keeper doesn’t hold onto this second shot, the 3rd server is there to finish the rebound.

While there should be very little time between the keeper making the first save and the second shot being hit, once the play is over, there is not a rush to start back up. If you have 2 or even 3 keepers they can rotate in this activity.

Have a great day!
