Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on explosiveness, fitness shot blocking and diving.
Start with a keeper in goal, a hurdle (from 1-3 feet high depending upon the keeper) to his side and a server on the 12 with some balls.
The keeper starts by jumping off of two feet, sideways, over the hurdle, landing on two feet (the balls of the feet) and as soon as he lands, the server plays a ball right at him and the keeper makes the save.
The keeper returns the ball to the server and then does the same thing in the other direction.
Do this 5 times in each direction.
Next, do the same thing but this time the server plays the ball wider so the player jumps off of two feet, sideways, over the hurdle, lands on two feet and then has to dive to make the save (it’s important to understand the keeper is NOT to dive over the hurdle).
[wpsharely id="821"][/wpsharely]Do this 5 times each direction.
Next, do the same thing but this time the keeper jumps over the hurdle, and then back over and then back over and then the server plays the ball (over, back and over again). Do this 5 times in each direction.
You can add more jumps, more variations etc but keep in mind the purpose is to emphasize technique here so as the keeper starts to get a bit tired, they should remain focussed on doing things correctly.
Have a great day!
