Recover and React

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on parries, getting up quickly and making the second save.

Start with a keeper in goal, on one knee, a server 15 yards out with balls and a second server 15 yards out on an angle also with balls.

The first server starts by playing a hard ball to the side of the keeper (the side where the knee is up) on the ground.

gk204b

The keeper dives and makes the save by parrying the ball down the end line.

gk204c

As soon as the keeper makes the save he must get up to his feet to make the second save from the second server.

This second shot can be right at the keeper, or to either side.

The keeper makes the save and then returns the ball to the server and goes back down to one knee to do the second rep.

This is done a total of 10 times to the keepers left side and then they switch side and do it another 10 times to the keepers right.

This activity will help the keeper get in the habit of getting up quickly when a ball is parried because they have to assume the second shot will be coming right away.

Have a great day!
