Moving Forward to Make a Save

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on shot blocking and coming forward to make the save.

Start with a keeper in goal and a server with a few balls at the top of the 18.

The server starts by shooting on goal. It can be right at the keeper or toward the side

The keeper makes the save and returns the ball to the side of the server.

The server then plays a second ball short for the keeper to attack and pick up.

The keeper then retrieves the ball and goes back to the starting point WITHOUT TURNING HIS BACK TO THE SERVER.

The short ball can be served in so that the keeper can pick it up and run through the ball or have to dive on it like it’s a breakaway.

The key in this activity is to really emphasize the attacking of the ball while not losing focus on doing everything else right as well.

Have a great day!
