Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on catching, footwork, extension dives and a bit of fitness.
Start with a keeper in goal and servers 12 yards from each post on the end line. These servers each have a ball in their hands. A third server is 15 yards out with balls.
The keeper starts by sprinting to the post closest to server number 1.
As soon as he gets there the server volleys a ball right at the keeper. He makes the save and then returns the ball.
[wpsharely id="821"][/wpsharely]As soon as the ball is returned server 2 plays a ball toward the opposite post.
The keeper has to extend for a dive to make the save.
The keeper returns the ball and then jogs to the post closest to server 3.
When the keeper gets to the post, server 3 volleys a ball, the keeper makes the save and then server 2 plays a ball toward the far post and the keeper must work his way across the goal and make the save.
Do this 10 times total.
One thing to keep in mind is that servers 1 or 3 plays a ball and then the keeper returns the ball and then server 2 plays his ball, this is done as quickly as possible. Once the save is made from server 2, there isn’t a rush to get to the next serve. The keeper should jog, set quickly and then it starts back up but that part should be done at a relaxed pace and then there is the acceleration for the next ball.
Have a great day!
