Exercise For Shot Stopping

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on footwork, fitness and shot blocking.

Start with two goals 8 yards apart. A keeper starts in one goal. There is a server for each goal 15 yards out with balls.

The server starts with a shot at the keeper who makes the save.

The keeper returns the ball and then runs back behind the goal and then slides side to side to the back of the next goal and then comes forward to cut off the angle

The second server plays the ball and then the keeper makes the save and does the same thing in the other direction.

This is done for 2 minutes at full speed.

Next you will do the same thing but instead of the shot being hit at the keeper, the ball should be hit to the side, forcing a dive. This also is done for 2 minutes.

In a relatively short period of time the keeper get a lot of shots, works on fitness and footwork and the is ready to move on.

Have a great day!
