Drill For Dealing With High Balls

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on high balls, footwork and some fitness

Start with a server on the top of the 18 with some balls and a keeper in goal.

The keeper starts by dropping to the ground and doing a push up. The server then tosses a ball high in the air which should come down near the 12 yard spot. The keeper comes forward and catches it at it’s highest point

(I’m sorry if the graphics are confusing, it’s difficult to represent high balls with the lines)

The keeper then returns the ball and the server tosses another ball toward the cross bar. The keeper has to get back quickly and either catch the ball or push it over the cross bar.

As soon as this save is made, the keeper drops down does another push up and starts again.

The keeper will do 10 of these in a row and the server needs to make sure the keeper gets practice going back to each side.

Have a great day!
