Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity is a 2 v 1 situation out wide playing into a 3 v 2 in the box.
Start with an outside midfielder near the touch line and a central midfielder with the ball. There are 3 attacking players at the edge of the box and two defenders in the box. A keeper is in goal.
The play starts with a pass from the central midfielder to the outside midfielder.
The outside midfielder takes a touch toward the middle and the central midfielder overlaps.
[wpsharely id="1204"][/wpsharely]The player with the ball then reads the defender. If the defender goes with the runner, he can serve an early ball into the runners.
If the defender stays with the player with the ball, he can pass the ball down the line to the runner who then crosses from a deeper position.
This activity forces the player with the ball to read the defender, the players in the box to read the situation so they can time their run and all of the players to execute their responsibilities properly.
You can have one group lined up on the right side and another group lined up on the left side so they alternate sides and when one group is attacking the other group is resetting.
Have a great day!
