Diving with a Quick Change of Direction

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on diving with a quick change of direction.

Start with a horizontal line of 6 cones, 2 feet apart. A keeper starts on one end of the line and a server is 10 yards away with a ball.

The keeper starts by sprinting behind the cones to get to the other side as quickly as possible. As soon as he gets there the server plays a ball back in the direction the keeper came and the keeper must dive and make the save in front of the cones.

The keeper then gets up, returns the ball to the server and sprints back to his starting point.

This is done 10 times and then they rest and the keeper gets ready to do the same thing in the other direction.

Next, the keeper does the same thing but now instead of sprinting behind the cones, he must step, sideways, between each cone. Again, this is done 10 times in each direction.

Now do the same thing but this time the keeper hops, one legged between each cone before making the save.

Finally, do the same thing but this time off of the opposite foot.

You can do any number plyometric like activities and then end with the save in the other direction.

Have a great day!
