This session focuses on attacking and transitions.
Set-Up
In an area approximately 40 yards x 40 yards you will have two teams playing 5 v 5 with two small goals on each end line.
Execution
The teams of five can score on either goal on the opponents end line. However, when they score a goal the player who scored it must get the ball from the net and juggle five times before they can re-enter the game.
Coaching Points
After a player scores and begins to juggle the opposing team should attack at full pace.
The player on the ball should quickly recognize which goal direction their team has a numeric advantage and press into that area with numbers
The team with the numeric advantage must not hesitate to go to goal and should be willing to take risks in order to be successful
Part 2
Setup
In an area approximately 60 yards x 60 yards you will have two teams playing 8 v 8 + 1 with three small goals on each end line.
Execution
The teams of eight can score on the three goals on the opponents end line. However, when they score a goal the player who scored it must sprint behind the goal they scored on, touch the cone, then join the game again.
Coaching Points
After a player scores and sprints behind the goal the opposing team should attack at full pace.
The player on the ball should quickly recognize which goal direction their team has a numeric advantage and press into that area with numbers
The team with the numeric advantage must not hesitate to go to goal and should be willing to take risks in order to be successful
The team in possession should get players high up the field as quickly as possible to stretch the defending unit.
Utilize the neutral player to give yourself a +2 advantage for as long as possible once you allow a goal.
Part 3
Setup
In an area approximately 60 yards x 60 yards you will have two teams playing 8 v 8 + 2 with a big goal and GK on each end line.
Execution
Regular soccer rules apply including throw in and goal kicks.
Coaching Points
The two neutral players should work to position themselves in areas where they will help the team outnumber their opponents.
Players attacking on the off side of the ball should look to overload defenders and provide enough options for their teammates they cannot be marked.
As defenders become occupied with the ball players should work to stretch them vertically and any ball that can be played vertically, eliminating the defenders, should be the first choice.
