Near Post Shots

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter.  Today’s activity works on near post shots and reading a situation.

Start with a server with balls12 yards out from the 6 extended.  Another player is near the 12 yard spot and a keeper is at the far post.

The server says “go” and the keeper quickly works his way across the goal.

The server shoots near post and the keeper has to make the save.

The server also has the option, upon calling “go” to pass to the 12 yard spot for a first time shot

The server also has the option of playing a ball toward the top of the 6.  If the ball gets played there, the keeper has to read the pass and try to beat the player to the ball and smother it.

This activity forces the keeper to make saves, read the situation and react accordingly.

Have a great day!
