Moving Forward On Dives

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on coming forward on dives.

Set up 2 goals (using cones) 4 yards apart. A keeper is in the middle of the 2 cones and servers are 10 yards from each goal with balls.

A server starts by playing a ball toward the corner of one of the goals.

The keeper comes forward and then dives to make the save.

As soon as the save is made the ball is returned to the server and the other server plays the ball to a corner.

The keeper sprints to get to the ball and dives to make the save

The servers can also play the ball down the middle at which point the keeper can do a forward dive to make the save.

It’s important for the servers to try to time their serves so the keeper is challenged but is able to get to the ball using proper technique.

This is an excellent activity to work on forcing the keepers to come forward on dives.

Have a great day!
