Eight-Cone Goalkeeper Drills

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on fitness, footwork and catching

Start with 8 cones 1 yard apart in a line. They are numbered 1-8 as shown in the diagram below.

A keeper starts in front of cone 1 and one server starts with a ball 10 yards in front of him. A second server starts, with a ball, 10 yards in front of cone 2

gk200b

The first server plays a ball hard, right at the keeper who makes the save and returns the ball.

The keeper then slides to his side to be in front of cone 2 and does the same thing with the second server

The keeper then slides over to cone 3 and does the same with the first server

This continues through cones 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and then goes back down to 7 then 6 then 5 etc

You can use this for any type of serves (on the ground, volleys, high balls etc) and is a great way to get the keeper working hard, working on footwork and catching.

Have a great day!
