Competitive Goalkeeper Game

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter.  Today’s featured activity works on kick out dives, smothers and throwing.

Start with 2 keepers 10 yards apart (the distance can vary depending upon their level) in goals 3 yards apart.  One keeper starts with a ball in his hands.

The player tries to score by throwing the ball through the other goal.  The opposing keeper tries to prevent this from happening.  Both the throw and the defending keeper must be on their lines (there is no cutting off angles in this game).  For a goal to count, the ball must cross the opposing line and be below the keepers waist

If the keeper makes the save and holds onto the ball, they do the same in the opposite direction

If the ball goes out of play (over the end line) if it would be a goal kick in a normal game the near keeper gets the ball.  If it would be a corner kick, the far keeper gets the ball.

If there is a rebound, whichever keeper gets to the ball first gets the ball.

This activity will allow keepers to work on some of the most difficult saves to make which are the hard low shots just to the side of them.

Play this game to 5 and then if you have more keepers, change the opponents up.

Have a great day!
