Diving Cone to Cone

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on technical training of diving and coming forward on the dive.

This can be used after the exercise from last week's post.

Start with 2 lines of staggered cones, 5 yards apart. There is one keeper who starts at one end between the two lines and a server 10 yards away, in between the cones.

gk271a

The keeper starts by moving forward and the server tosses a ball to the first cone.

gk271b

The keeper does a simple collapse dive and makes the save.

gk271c

The keeper returns the ball to the server who then tosses it toward the first cone in the other line.

gk271d

Each time the ball gets tossed by the server he takes a few steps back preparing for the next cone.

They go back and forth through the two sets of cones with an emphasis on proper technique and coming forward to make the save.

Go through one set of these and then change the toss (the first set might be done with the ball tossed knee height and the next set might be head height and then the next set rolling balls.

You can also vary the distance between the two lines of cones or between the cones within each line to change the emphasis a bit.

Have a great day!
