Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on receiving a ball with the feet and distributing under control.
Start with a keeper in goal, a three yard wide gate at the top corners of the 18 and a server 25 yards out with some balls.
The server plays the ball back to the keeper (in this activity the assumption is the server is a teammate of the keeper)
The keeper must receive the ball and then play it through either of the gates.
When possible the ball would be played one touch but when necessary two touches would be permitted.
Start by having the server play balls directly to the keeper but then progress to where the ball is being played on an angle away from the keeper so the keeper must move to the ball, get it under control and then play it accurately through a gate
The server can also play some balls in the air to make it difficult for the keeper to handle the first serve.
Once the keeper becomes proficient with this type of distribution, move the gates around so the keeper can play different angles and distances.
Have a great day
