Area Size: Ten yards between each cone
Teams: One person per cone with six cones
Time: With alternating stretching intervals, approximately 15 minutes
Setup:
A hexagon is set up with 6 cones to create six sides. Make distance between cones about ten yards. Pre-assign wingers (7 and 11 players) to fill two of the spots.
Execution:
Various patterns of passing are used around the hexagon from cone to cone but the wingers (predesignated) must dribble penetrate to the next cone, lay off the pass and return to their spot. Emphasize accuracy in passing to the correct foot depending on purpose of rotation. All balls played forward must be played to front foot. All balls played backward must be approached side-on and not square. Encourage players to look over shoulder before receiving to develop good receiving skills.
Variations:
• Just about any pattern the coach can come up with while still emphasizing winger penetration for the 7 and 11 players.
• Double pass option as displayed with 7 and 11 being new people each time.
• Over-weight the passes (encourage receiver to take pace off the ball on reception.
• Under-weight the passes (encourage players to go to the ball with low pace to receive.
