Objectives
• To develop attacking combinations used during a switch of play
• To develop timing of runs in behind the backline
• To understand movements of winger and full back on weak side
Description: Player A starts by dribbling through gate as Player B checks down to receive the ball. Player A plays a 1-2 combination with player B and then plays a long pass towards the full back on the weak side. Players then carry out combinations to goal. Repeat actions going from left to right.
Second Combination - Player A switches the field to the Winger on the weak side who plays full back on the overlapping run who looks to serve into box.
Third Combination - Player A switches the field to the Winger on the weak side who plays a teammate in behind the backline for a chance on goal.
Coaching Points
• Timing of movements on the weak side
• Timing of runs behind the defenders into the space behind them
• Timing of pass into the space• Direction and weight of pass
• Correct movements to create space/ Body positioning
Variations/Progressions
• Add defenders in place of mannequins.
• Add combinations in attacking third
Originally from San Antonio, Texas, George moved to northern California in 2014 to take over as the head soccer coach at Lassen College. In his brief time with the program George has won an undefeated conference title, coached four players of the year, and won three Coach of the Year Awards.
