Passing Drill with Turns and Movement

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s passing activity works on passing, quick touches, turns and movement.

This activity involves 5 players per group. 2 groups of 2, 20 yards apart and a player in the middle. One of the players on the outside has a ball.

The player with the ball starts by passing to the player in the middle. The passer then follows his pass.

drills235b

The player in the middle turns with the ball and passes to the player on the opposite end. He then follows his pass.

drills235c

The player on the end, receiving the pass, passes one touch to the player who passed it to him. This player then lays it off for a simple square ball.

The ball then gets played to the new middle player and this rotation continues.

Every pass, with the exception of the player receiving the ball in the middle and then turning, will be a one touch pass. The player in the middle can do different turns, in order to keep changing this activity but the key is the turn should be a quick, sharp turn and then have a nice pass right afterwards.

You can do this activity for a 5 minute period and, done properly, the players will get a lot of touches, a lot of movement and be warmed up for the next part of the training program.

Have a great day!
