High Pressure and Defensive Transition

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on defensive transition and high pressure.

This is a 6 v 6 plus keepers on half a field with 2 full sized goals and a midfield line.

The ball starts with one of the keepers and the defending team plays high pressure.

The attacking team gets one point for having possession of the ball in their attacking half. They get 3 points for scoring a goal.

In the diagrams below, the defending team might give up the short pass but then will high pressure to prevent progression.

If the defending team wins the ball in their attacking half, they get a point for having possession in their attacking half of the field.

If the attacking team loses the ball in their attacking half of the field, no point is awarded.

If the attacking team loses the ball in their attacking half of the field and the other team brings the ball up past the midfield line and then scores they get 4 points total.

You can play this game till one team gets a certain number of points or for a specified time period.
