The UEFA Womens Champions League witnessed a record breaking crowd to watch Barcelona take on Real Madrid in their second leg at Camp Nou. The 91,000+ in attendance were witness to an entertaining game with many goals. Ending 5 - 2, 8 - 3 on aggregate in Barcelona’s favor, Barcelona showed their ability to dominate a game with good movement, passing and high pressure on the ball.
One such example of their movement and passing came in the 62 minute, when Barcelona began to attack down the right side of the pitch. As a pass was played wide at half field to midfielder Bonmatí, Alexis Putella’s began to make a diagonal run towards the Real Madrid defender Andrés.
Putellas moves close enough and then turns her run away from Andrés and the Real Madrid goal and sucks Andrés to go with and follow her.
Just as Andrés steps to go with Putellas, she quickly cuts back on her previous path creating a large amount of space behind the now caught off guard Andrés.
At the same time, Bonmatí plays a ball between the back left defenders and Putellas is in on goal with time to get the ball under control and gets her shot off.
Madrid’s goalie Rodriguez gets her hand to the ball, but it’s not enough to keep the ball out and it trickles over the line despite an attempted clearance by Andrés.
