Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on attacking with pressure or playing away simple.
Start with a 4 v 4 game plus keepers in a 50 x 40 grid with full sized goals (the number of players and size of the field can vary).
This is a regular scrimmage with regular rules with 1 big exception.
● When a player receives a ball, they can either play the ball one touch.
● Or they can attack a defender or goal by dribbling.
They can't receive the ball and stop by the ball dead.
Nor can they dribble toward space.
The thing we are trying to emphasize here is when a player is about to receive a ball, he should either put pressure on the defender by attacking the defender or the goal. If that opportunity doesn’t exist, then the other option is to make a one touch pass to safety.
When we look at some of todays greats (Robben, Ronaldo, Di Maria) they put pressure on the defense as opposed to letting the defense put pressure on them. That is the emphasis with today’s activity.
Have a great day!
