Conditioned Passing Game

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured game is a regular scrimmage with an emphasis on passing

Depending upon the number of players available this can be a full field game (11 v 11) or smaller if less numbers are available. Play with full sized goals (or if keepers aren’t available play with small goals).

All regular rules apply and the only difference with this game and a normal game is the scoring.

A “negative” pass counts as 1 point. This would be a pass made away from the goal you are attacking. In this case, negative means away from and NOT bad.

A “neutral” pass in the defensive half of the field counts as 0 points. This would be a square and is extremely dangerous.

drills207b

A “neutral” pass in the attacking half of the field counts as 1 point.

drills207c

A “forward” pass to the nearest attacking player counts as 2 points.

drills207d

A “forward” pass to any attacking player further than the nearest player counts as 3 points.

A pass resulting in a one touch shot counts as 5 points and a pass resulting in a one touch goal counts as 10 points.

A goal that isn’t that isn’t one touch (can be from a pass or a dribble) counts as 7 points.

The purpose of this game is to get the players thinking not just about passing but where they are passing and why they are making the passes they are making.

Have a great day!
