Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on attacking at speed. There are many other options to try with this activity and you can find others in the book Improving Your Teams Speed of Play.
Start with a 40 x 25 field with 2 full sized goals and a keeper in each goal. There is a midfield line and 3 attackers and 2 defenders in each half.
If the yellow team starts with the ball it would be 3 v 2 going to goal. The black team defends and if either of their backs wins the ball or if the keeper makes a save, they look to quickly distribute to their players in their attacking half of the field.
Since we are working on trying to attack at speed you can put in various limitations such as each attackers can only play 2 touches or limit the entire attack to 5 touches for all players combined.
If a goal is scored the ball starts with the keeper for the scoring team so if the yellow team scores their keeper gets a ball in back and they get the ball again. The three black forwards would apply pressure to try to make it difficult to penetrate with a pass into the attacking half.

Have a great day!
