Dutch Passing Pattern

These exercises are based on Dutch training methods. The Dutch are considered one of the most technical in the world.

The exercise is a 4+2 player’s game.

The focus on this exercise is on maintenance of ball possession, player’s movement and exchange of quick passes.

The exercise is completed in a 15 x 12 yard area. Each player is limited to two touches on the ball. Two balls can be used simultaneously.

Exercise

Four Attackers start outside the game area while two attackers are inside. The Attackers exchange passes between them trying to move the ball quickly.

Player nº 1 makes a pass to Player nº 5

Player nº 3 makes a pass to Player nº 6

Player nº 5 receives the ball and makes a pass to Player nº 2

Player nº 6 receives the ball and makes a pass to Player nº 4

Player nº 2 receives the ball and quickly returns it to Player nº 5, who had to move fast to find a new position to receive the pass.

Player nº 4 receives the ball and quickly returns it to Player nº 6, who had to move fast to find a new position to receive the pass.

Player nº 5 receives the ball and quickly makes a pass to Player nº 3
Player nº 6 receives the ball and quickly makes a pass to Player nº 1

And then the pattern continues.

Player’s nº 5 and nº 6 cannot move in the same direction during the exercise. They have to go in different directions.

The balls also can't go into the same direction during the exercise.

Variations

  • You can vary the number of initial number of players inside the game area
  • You can free the number of ball touches per player
  • You can vary the direction of the players’ movement
