Take-Over Drill

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on passing, takeovers and turns.

Start with 2 players 20 yards apart, one of whom has a ball. A third player is behind the player with the ball.

The player with the ball starts by passing to the far player and then running right at that player.

The player who receives the ball dribbles at the player coming at him.

The dribbling player opens his hips to allow the runner to do a takeover.

The player who allowed the takeover runs to the end line behind the waiting player and the dribbler takes the ball to the opposite endline, does a turn and passes to the third player.

The activity then continues for 2 straight minutes at full speed.

The objective with this activity is to have good crisp passes, sprints after each pass, good communication (verbal and non verbal) for the takeover and then sharp turns.

Have a great day!
