2v1 and 3v2 Attacking and Defending

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter.  Today’s featured activity works on 2 v 1 and 3 v 2 attacking and defending.  Attacking activities such as this one can be found in the book Training Creative Goalscorers.

Start with a grid that is 50 x 40 with a midfield line.  There are full sized goals on each end line and a keeper in each goal.  The black team will start 2 v 1 in their attacking half and there are 2 blacks and 2 yellows in the other half, waiting.

When a goal is scored or the yellow player wins the ball the yellow player quickly transitions to attack and joins the two teammates to make a 3 v 2.

As soon as the yellow player crosses the midfield line, a new yellow player prepares to defend and the two black players leave the field

When the black players win the ball they become the attackers and new defenders take their place and new attackers join on for yellow.

This is a constantly moving activity so players must be prepared to rotate onto the field as quickly as possible.

If you are like me, you will find the rotation never seems to work perfectly but the key is I don’t worry about things like that.  I prefer the players work things out on their own rather than worry if they went to the correct line etc.

Attacking activities such as this one can be found in the book Training Creative Goalscorers.
