Warm-Up For Passing and Dribbling

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity is a warm up that works on short passing, turning while receiving the ball, dribbling, turning off the dribble and longer passes.

Start with server with a ball and a player 30 yards away (in this example, there is only one server and one player but you would have many going at the same time in a team training session). There should also be a line 15 halfway between the server and player.

The player checks to the ball and the server passes it so he receives it at the middle line.

The player receives the ball and turns with it and dribbles to the back line.

drills216c

When the player gets to the back line, he turns with the ball.

The player then passes the ball back to the server and then starts again.

Do this for a one minute period (at full speed) and then switch roles.

There are many variations on this including dictating the type of turns when receiving and dictating the type of turns at the far end. With these various options you could have each player do 5-6 sets of these with each set having different turns etc

Have a great day!
