Speed Ladder Goalkeeper Drill

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on footwork, fitness, catching and dives

This activity uses 3 speed ladders but you can easily use cones if you don’t have the ladders.

Start with 2 ladders parallel to each other and a 3rd ladder perpendicular to the other 2 but at the end of them. 2 keepers start behind one of the ladders and there is a server 10 yards from the 2 parallel ladders.

gk227a

The first keeper starts by taking 1 step in each hole of the ladder and when he gets to the end of this first ladder the server volleys a ball right at him.

The ball gets returned to the server and then the keeper goes sideways through the next ladder.

gk227d

The ball gets served to the side of the keeper who dives to make the save.

The keeper then gets up and goes BACKWARDS through the last ladder.

gk227fWhen the first keeper returns the ball to the second server, the second keeper begins.

Do this using the different variations with the ladders (one step in, two steps in, one legged hopping etc) and do it two times with each variation and then change sides (so the keepers get an opportunity to dive to both sides

Have a great day!
