Quick Turns and Pullbacks

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity works on quick turns and pull backs.

Start with a player with a ball at his feet and three cones 5 yards away, in a line 3 yards apart (you can change the distance and make them shorter for quicker turns or longer for more running).

drills249a

The player dribbles to the first cone and pulls the ball back with his outside foot (in this case the players right foot) and turns and dribbles back to the starting point.

drills249b

The player then does the same to the middle cone and uses the same foot to pull the ball back.

drills249c

He then dribbles to the third cone and uses the other foot (the outside foot) to pull the ball back.

drills249d

He then goes back to the same cone, then back to the middle cone and then back to the first cone..

The idea here is to dribble quickly. cut back sharply and accelerate out of the turn.

Use different types of turns, which should include dribbling around the cones with either the inside of the outside of the foot, adding fakes, step overs etc.

You can either do this for a set number of sets (3 sets with a set defined as to and from each of the 3 cones) or for a set period of time (as many turns in a 2 minute period as possible).

This is a very simple activity that can be used as a nice warm up. Work in groups of 2’s so one works and the other rests and then they switch roles.

Have a great day!
