Dribbling and Passing Warm-Up Game

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity is a dribbling and passing warm up game.

Start with 15-18 players in a big circle (40 yard diameter) with a small square (5 x 5) in the middle

Start with one player having a ball. This player dribbles into the middle square then accelerates out and passes to another player

The passing player then follows his pass and the receiving player does the same thing

Do this for 30 seconds so the players understand the movement and then add 3 more balls. Now you have 4 balls at one time so multiple players are dribbling, passing and running at any given time. The players on the outside have to stay aware so they can receive a pass and also must be prepared to shift along the circle to make sure there are no large holes on the outside

Next do the same thing but this time with restrictions. You can put in requirements such as a specific move must be done inside of the 5 x 5 square before accelerating and passing. Or, you can require a turn inside of the small square or any number of options.

In the very beginning this might seem like there will be a lot of standing around but once you are up to 4 balls, players will be getting a lot of touches, a lot of movement and will stay active throughout the entire activity.

Have a great day!
