This week's exercises are from our book, 'Coaching the 4-3-3 Advanced Tactics'
BALL CIRCULATION #1 3 v 3 + 3
What is attractive about the way Barcelona develops players is the focus on the quality of passing and possession. They spend a lot of time playing in smaller spaces to force players to deal with quicker possession, tighter and more accurate passes, and quicker thinking and adjusting to the ever-changing environment of the game. Although the concept of transition may not be something that is identifiable in the Barcelona Method, it is still something that needs to be emphasized in the play. In this exercise, the space is a small 15x20 with 3v3 inside and 1 central neutral player with 2 neutral players on the outside.
The play then becomes 3v3 plus 3. The objective is to protect the ball and to play from one target player on one end to the opposite target player and continue. There are a few points to watch for as the exercise progresses and players are shifting and moving within the changing environment.
