Dribbling and Awareness Small-Sided Game

By Lawrence Fine, Author of the FineSoccer Coaching Bible.

Welcome to the FineSoccer Drills Newsletter. Today’s featured activity is a game that works on dribbling and awareness.

Start with a 30 x 30 grid with flags 10 yard on the outside of each corner.

Players are in teams of 3’s inside the grid and each player has a ball.

The players dribble around randomly inside the grid and when the coach calls a name, that player must dribble as fast as he can around one of the flags and then return to the grid. One player from each of the other teams must dribble around that same flag and return to the grid. The last player to get back to the grid gets a “point” for his team (points are bad). In the diagram below the yellow player had his name called.

A red and black player must do the same.

If the red player beats the black player back to the grid, the black team gets the point.

Next the coach would call a player from one of the other teams.

The first team to 6 points loses

This is an excellent way to work on dribbling, teamwork, communication while having fun.

Have a great day!
