Welcome to the Goalkeeping Newsletter. Today’s featured activity is a warm up diving activity working on leading with the hands.
Start with 6 balls on the center circle with a keeper in the middle
The keeper starts by sprinting to one of the balls and dives on it as if it’s a breakaway. This means leading with the hands and taking off as far as possible to get there as quickly as possible
The keeper would then get up, spring back to the middle and then do the same to the next ball
The keeper would do this same thing through all 6 balls (leading with the same hand each time) and then does the same thing in the other direction (leading with the other hand).
It’s so important for the keeper to lead with the hands on breakaway dives (both to increase the likelihood of making the save and also decreasing the likelihood of injury) and the best way to do do this is to do it over and over. This activity is a simple way to do this.
Have a great day!
