By Danny Carvalho,
In 1v1 situations, goalkeepers need to read the play well to make a good decision and win their tough duel against strikers.
This activity is designed to attack this issue and work on GKs ability to read the play well.
Set up two mini goals side to side at about 5 yards apart and a GK in between then.
At about another 5 yards from each goal front, place a ball and have a player in between them, facing the GK as displayed in the following diagram.
The player must fake and disguise to try and score a shot in the corresponding mini goal as the GK must red the player’s moves to anticipate and stop them from scoring.
Below you see the player making a move to the right to engage the GK…
… and as fast as possible running to the left side to take the shot. Well done keeper!
Variation:
Instead of having straight vertical shots, now if the player runs to the right side they must score on left mini goal and the other way around. This will make the GK read the play and move to the opposite side to close the diagonal shot.
