Small-Sided Game For Wing Play

Here is a great small sided game to work on using width while still looking to get to goal.  There are many small sided games that can be played such as this one.  To see others check out the DVD Small Sided Games of the World’s Top Teams.

In this game, it’s a 40 x 35 field with full sized goals on each end line.  On each sideline there is a 4 yard gate in the center with a neutral player behind the gate..  This is a 5 v 5 game including keepers.

Teams get 3 points for a goal.  They also can get one point for  passing the ball through the gate to the neutral player.  The neutral player is limited to one touch and passes back to the team that passed to them

This means a team can play the ball out wide get a return pass and score a goal for a total of 4 points.

You can also add a neutral player on the field to encourage even more possession and support.

By adding another neutral player it encourages success for the attacking team and reinforces what the coach is trying to implement.
