Goalkeeper Rondo Training

By Danny Carvalho,

That rondo is one of the most used activities in practicing soccer in the last decade is no novelty for any coach. But a rondo applied to goalkeepers is quite unusual though fun and challenging.

As you make the GKs on the possession duty of the rondo work on their awareness, turning and keeping the ball away from a defender, the defending GK is having loads of work in reading and predicting the play, explosive dives and trying their best in an unpredictable and chaotic scenario.

Four GKs on the outside of the grid and one GK on the inside. In this first part of the activity, have GKs work with their hands only to keep the ball away. Have each goalie play for a minute in the middle, keeping track of how many times they manage to intercept a pass.

Progress to GKs on the outside use their feet only and a one touch limit to make it more achievable for the GK in the middle.

Have each goalie play three to four sets in the middle.
